68. Francois Alexandre Autard De Bragard

1 NOTE FRANCOIS-ALEXANDRE AUTARD de BRAGARD was a Lieutenant inCont'sRegiment,
he later became a Colonel of Infantry. He was also a Knight ofMilitary
and the Royal Order of St Louis as well as a Knight of theLegion
of Honour.
He was appointedin 1791 in commandement of Grenoble, Rouen andBriancon
in honour of his first service.
During the Revolution in France in 1789, the King had beencaptured
and beheaded in Paris and although Orpierre was some distanceaway,
it was not unaffected. The House of Lacquet (decendants of theAutard
family from the Eyguians) lost all their properties. FrancoisAlexandre
sold his property to Jean Artaud (28 items were recorded in theland
registery).
In 1823, the old hopspital in Orpierre was converted into aschool
and a bell weighing some 315kgs was sent to the church (theother
one was confiscated during the Revolution ?) On the bell wasinscribed
"MARIE-SAUVE-TERRE. Year of Grace 1823, under the Reign of LouisXVIII,
AUTARD DE BRAGARD, engeneers battalion superior, Kinight ofSaint
Louis .... of Honour Legion"
The bell was damamged during the first World War and was melteddown
to make another now called SUZANNE ROSE

76. Mathieu Autard

1 NOTE Mathieu lost 6 of his brothers and sisters at a very earlyage,this
may have been one of the reasons he left home and also why heonly
started having children after the age of 30. Mathieu Autard'sname
was changed on arrival in America through the phoenetic spellingof
the name Autard and he became known as Hotard. He marriedMarie
Genevieve Bourgeois in 1772 a native of the German Coast anddaughter
of Dominic Bourgeois and Reine Genevieve Uval,near the St Johnthe
Baptist and St Charles Parish boundary line between Killona andLucy.
After the death of his wife in 1821, Mathieu returned to Franceto
live out the rest of his days, leaving his children who weremarried
and settled in Louisiana. CHILDREN At age 31 Mathieu becamethe
father of Mathieu Hotard Jr. At age 34 he became the father ofJoseph
Nicholas Hotard. At age 36 he became the father of JeanBaptisteHotard.
At age 40 he became the father of Pierre Simon Hotard At age 42he
became the father of Guillermo Hotard ABT age 43 he became thefather
of Marie Erasie Hotard ABT age 50 he became the father ofMarcelite
Hotard ABT age 52 he became the father of Aime Hotard ABT age 56he
became the father of Rosalie The genealogy of Mathieu Hotard(Autard)
and marie Genevieve Bourgeois has been published in L'Heritage,the
publication of the St. Bernard Genealogical Research Society. Itis
listed under the title of "The Bourgeois Genealogy and AlliedGerman
